Velma “Sally” Finger, a resident of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, USA, is celebrating her 111th birthday today. At the moment, she is the second-oldest living person in the U.S. state of Missouri, after Laverne Dicks.
She is reportedly doing very well and recently enjoyed a wonderful birthday celebration with family and friends. The party was held at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on 25 July. She also celebrated alongside her younger sister, Betty Phillips, who turned 96 on 23 July. Together, the sisters have shared an extraordinary 207 years of life.
Finger was born on 28 July 1915 to parents William Cleveland Hinkle (1887-1969) and Bessie Susan Reed (1889-1966) on a farm near the small town of Advance, Stoddard County, Missouri. Sally was one of eight children, three boys and five girls. As a young woman, Sally moved to Cape Girardeau, Missouri to work in Burgers Bakery owned by her twin sister. While living in Cape Girardeau, she had a chance encounter with her soon to be husband.
On 25 April 1947, she married Otto Michael Finger, and the couple later had a son; Michael lll. After almost 29 years of marriage, Michael died after a short illness in 1976. After her husband’s passing, she moved back to Cape Girardeau, to be closer to her family.
