Ortolani was born in Abington, Pennsylvania, USA, on 4 October 1912 (claimed 4 September). Her parents were Italian immigrants from Pescara, Italy. In 1924, when she was 12 years old, they moved back to Pescara and took her with them.
Ortolani married in Italy. Her husband was a policeman, and they had four children together. He passed away at the age of 38. Ortolani managed her tailor shop, which employed 20 workers, until she retired at 77. After retiring, she moved to Lombardy. Around the age of 100, she lost her eyesight due to glaucoma in one eye and an inoperable cataract in the other. At 110, she was still able to walk and eat unassisted.
Ortolani passed away in San Donato Milanese, Milan, Lombardy Region, Italy, on 10 June 2024, at the age of 111 years, 250 days.
On 17 January 2023, following the death of 110-year-old Fatima Negrini, she became the oldest living person in Lombardy.
Her age was verified by Alessandro Delucchi, Marco Wikkerink, and Paolo Scarabaggio, and validated by the ESO on 11 February 2023.
