Alice Martha Hootman, the oldest living person in the U.S. state of Iowa, passed away in Sigourney on 11 June, aged 110 years, 136 days.
Alice Martha Hootman was born on a farm north of Fairfield, Iowa, on 26 January 1916, to Charles J. Black and Catherine Collett. On 13 February 1932, she married Arthur Clair Hootman (1907–1986), and they had three children: Donald Claire Hootman (1933–1952), Carol Gene Hootman (1936–2022), and Nancy (Hootman) Kerr (born 1940).
They lived on a farm North of Fairfield, Iowa, until 1949. They then moved to East of Vinton. She was employed at the County Home and later at the Iowa Braille & Sight Saving School. In 1986, she and her husband moved to Webster, Iowa. Following her husband’s death later that year, she continued to reside in Webster before later relocating to Sigourney.
