Damaris Josephine Bryant was a Jamaican-born British supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Damaris Bryant was born in Port Morant, Saint Thomas Parish, Jamaica, on 12 May 1909. She moved to the UK in the 1950s to work as a nurse, eventually settling in Wandsworth, where she lived for the rest of her life. In addition to her many years as an NHS worker, she later volunteered for a local charity. During the 1980s, she made the Battersea district of London her home, where she developed close friendships within the local community. She had a fondness for soap operas, particularly Emmerdale and EastEnders.

Bryant received birthday cards from Queen Elizabeth II every year starting from her 100th birthday. At 108, she was reportedly “thrilled” to add another card to her collection, being a huge fan of the Royal Family. On her 108th birthday, the Mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor Richard Field, presented her with the Mayor’s pin and honored her by adding her name to the Roll of Honour.

Damaris Bryant passed away in Wandsworth, London, England, on 29 April 2020, at the age of 110 years, 353 days.
