BIOGRAPHY

María Isabel León Ramírez was born in San Miguel Pipillola, Tlaxcala, Mexico, on 17 June 1906 (claimed 30 August).

Even at the age of 111, she was able to walk and do chores around the house. She was known as “Doña Chabelita”.

León Ramírez died of natural causes in San Miguel Pipillola, Tlaxcala, Mexico, on 22 December 2018, at the age of 112 years, 114 days.

RECOGNITION

At the time of death, the media reported her as the second-oldest living person in Mexico, after Antonia Valderrama Ocampo. The validation process concluded how Valderrama Ocampo was actually born in 1907, not 1905 like claimed, meaning León Ramírez was actually older than her.

Her age was verified by Stefan Maglov, and validated by the LAS on 1 May 2022, becoming the first validated supercentenarian from the Mexican state of Tlaxcala.
