Rita Vantini was an Italian supercentenarian who was the oldest living person in the region of Veneto at the time of her passing.

BIOGRAPHY

Vantini was born in Negrar di Valpolicella, Veneto, Italy, on 4 June 1914. She was the youngest of seven siblings. During her childhood, she faced numerous hardships, such as losing her mother and taking on household responsibilities.

In 1937, Vantini moved to Castel d’Azzano with her husband, Gino Baetta, where they worked as sharecroppers. They had three children, and would go on to have six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and, in 2024, Vantini became a great-great-grandmother. Her husband Gino passed away in 2019.

Despite her age, Vantini remained active and engaged in her community. At 103, she participated in a referendum on Veneto’s autonomy. Her commitment was recognised by the regional president, Luca Zaia, and the mayor of Castel d’Azzano.

On her 109th birthday, Vantini was visited by her family, including her three children and many descendants, with local officials extending their congratulations and best wishes. Governor Luca Zaia and Mayor Elena Guadagnini praised her remarkable life and contributions to the community.

Rita Vantini passed away in Castel d’Azzano, Veneto, Italy, on 21 January 2025, at the age of 110 years, 231 days.

RECOGNITION

On 18 March 2023, following the passing of 110-year-old Severina Chiurato, she becale the oldest living person in the region of Veneto, at the age of 108 years, 287 days. She held the title until her own passing in January 2025, when she was succeeded by Renza Mucelli, who was just three days younger.

Her age was verified by Paolo Scarabaggio, and validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) on 8 July 2024.
