RECOGNITION

In October 1995, he became a centenarian, and was listed annually in the MHLW-published Directory of Elderly People and the Okinawa Prefecture Centenarians List.

On 20 May 2004, he became the oldest man in Okinawa following the passing of Kameni Nakamura, who was previously the oldest man in Okinawa and Japan. In September 2004, he was officially recognized as the oldest living man in Okinawa and, at that time, the fifth-oldest living man in Japan.

As of September 2005, he was reported by MHLW as the third oldest man in Japan, after Nijiro Tokuda and Tomoji Tanabe.

His age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Yumi Yamamoto and Ryohei Asano, and validated by LongeviQuest on 4 June 2024.
