Maria José Guimarães, the oldest known living person in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, passed away today in Barra Mansa, at the age of 111 years, 168 days.
Maria José Guimarães was born on 16 April 1915 in Barra do Piraí, Rio de Janeiro, to Portuguese immigrant parents Cândido dos Santos Fernandes (9 January 1870 – 29 October 1949) and Maria Ventura Fernandes (14 August 1879 – 21 February 1971).
On 6 February 1932, she married Lauro Guimarães (16 July 1912 – 12 February 1989), and the couple had seven children.
