Vukosav Đorđević, the oldest known living man in Serbia, is celebrating his 106th birthday today in Zaječar.
Vukosav Đorđević (Serbian: Вукосав Ђорђевић) was born in the village of Crni Vrh, in the municipality of Knjaževac, Serbia (then part of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes), on 10 September 1920. He lived in his native village until the outbreak of World War II, when, in 1941, he joined the Yugoslav Partisans and did not return to the village afterward. Nevertheless, even in old age, he fondly remembered his childhood in the Balkan mountain range (Stara Planina), where he grew up.
After the end of World War II, he went to Negotin, where he continued his military career. He eventually attained the rank of senior sergeant (stariji vodnik). He was later transferred to Bitola, in present-day North Macedonia. Finally, in 1952, he moved to Zaječar, where he left the army and began working on the railway. After his retirement, he and some friends continued working privately, building houses. He married four times and had three sons and a daughter.
On 30 May 2025, he was visited by Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
On 14 March 2026, following the passing of 106-year-old Živorad Marković, he became the oldest known living man in Serbia.
