Maria Carmela Ricci, the second-oldest person in Italy, passed away today in Novara, Piedmont, at the age of 113 years, 307 days.

Ricci was born in San Bartolomeo in Galdo, Campania, Italy, on 16 April 1912.

On 14 November 2021, following the death of 109-year-old Gaudenzio Nobili, she became the oldest known living person in Piedmont.

At the time of her passing, she was the second-oldest living person in Italy, after Lucia Laura Sangenito, 115. She was also the third-oldest living person in Europe (after Ethel Caterham and Sangenito), and one of the 15 oldest living people in the world.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Maria Carmela Ricci during this difficult time
