Else Tostmann, the oldest living person in Germany, recently passed away in Adenstedt, Lower Saxony, at the age of 112.
Tostmann was born in Adenstedt, on 20 October 1913. She was baptized and confirmed in Adenstedt.
In 1939, she married Heinrich Tostmann. According to her, the most terrible experience of her life was a low-level attack over Adenstedt in 1944 during World War II, while she held her daughter Helga in her arms. Her husband never returned from the war. She initially worked in agriculture but later discovered her passion for cooking. According to her daughter, there was hardly a house in the village where she didn’t cook for parties during that time.
She was believed to have become the nation’s oldest living resident around June 2025 and was the last known person in Germany born in 1913.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Else Tostmann during this difficult time.
