LongeviQuest is pleased to announce the age validation of Mrs. Teresa Fernández Casado, the oldest living person in Spain. A resident of Zambroncinos del Páramo in Castile and León, she was born on 29 July 1913, making her 112 years and 117 days old as of today. She assumed the title on 11 November, following the passing of 112-year-old Angelina Torres Vallbona.

Teresa Fernandez Casado was born in Zambroncinos del Páramo, on 29 July 1913. She was the youngest of eight siblings. As a child, she took care of sheep but also attended the village school, where she learned to read and write. In her youth, she had an accident at work involving a hoe, where a splinter flew off and caused her to lose much of the vision in one eye.

At the age of 17, she married Julián de Paz Casas, a young man from the village. The following year, her first-born son, Ángel, was born, and her second son, Amancio, was born in September 1933. After the birth of their third child, her husband was called to war, but due to certain circumstances, he did not have to go. They later had six more children (nine in total). To support her family, she made cheese from sheep’s milk, knitted woolen socks, and sewed clothes for her children using her sewing machine.

We would like to extend our gratitude to Ana Gaitero Alonso and to Mrs. Fernández Casado’s family for their assistance with the validation process and for sharing new photos of her. We would also like to extend our congratulations to Teresa Fernández Casado on becoming Spain’s oldest resident, and we wish her many more years of health and happiness, surrounded by her loved ones.
