Manoel Angelim Dino, one half of the world’s longest-married couple, passed away in Boa Viagem, Ceará, Brazil, on 20 October, at the age of 106 years, 95 days. He is survived by his wife, Maria de Sousa Dino, 102, with whom he shared nearly 85 years of marriage.
Manoel Angelim Dino was born in Boa Viagem on 17 July 1919.
The couple first met around 1936 while working in agriculture, helping their families. Manoel had traveled to the Almeida region in the Boa Viagem district to collect a shipment of rapaduras (a traditional Brazilian candy) when he first encountered Maria. However, nothing came of their meeting at the time. Years later, fate brought them together again, and on 20 November 1940, they were married. At the time, they were 21 and 17, respectively.
After their wedding, the couple worked side by side in agriculture, cultivating rolled tobacco to support their growing family. Over the years, they raised 13 children.
In February 2025, the couple was officially verified and recognized by LongeviQuest, and shortly afterward, Guinness World Records also confirmed their title. On 18 May 2025, they were awarded by LongeviQuest and presented with a custom-designed LongeviQuest trophy, in recognition of their status as the world’s longest-married couple.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and loved ones of Manoel Angelim Dino during this difficult time.
