Anneliese Stennert, a resident of Braunschweig, Lower Saxony, Germany, is celebrating her 110th birthday today, according to Braunschweiger Zeitung.
Anneliese Stennert was born in Schwerin, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, on 13 May 1915. In her youth, she dreamed of becoming a librarian, but circumstances at the time made that dream unattainable. Instead, she pursued a career in teaching. She met her future husband, Heinz Stennert—also a teacher—at a seminar. They married in 1938, and their first child was born that same year. Two more children followed in 1940 and 1945.
During World War II, Heinz was drafted into the army in 1939. He was later taken prisoner by the British and was released in Braunschweig in 1946. Until the end of the war in 1945, she lived with her parents-in-law in Küstrin. Afterwards, she moved to Eberswalde, where she taught for a year. Following her husband’s release, the family relocated to Braunschweig.
After her husband passed away in 1996, she moved to Wolfenbüttel to live with her daughter. She remained there until her daughter’s death in 2014. Following that, she moved into assisted living in Wolfenbüttel. After a fall, she relocated to Braunschweig at the age of 100.
