Elizabeth Philippina van Boven-Smaal, the oldest living woman in the Netherlands, celebrated her 110th birthday today in Capelle aan den IJssel, South Holland. Her birthday was first reported by Het Kontakt – IJssel en Lekstreek.
She was born on 5 January 1915. For her 110th birthday, she was visited by Mayor Joost Manusama, and together they raised a celebratory toast.
Following the passing of 111-year-old Marina van der Es-Siewers on 11 March 2024, she became the oldest (known) living woman in the Netherlands. She is currently considered the second or third oldest living person in the country. This ranking accounts for an unverified claim by John Huang, who claims to have been born in February 1914 and resides in Hilversum, and a validated supercentenarian, Jan van Ierland, born in May 1914 and living in Bloemendaal.
