Kiyotaka Mizuno (Japanese: 水野清隆), a resident of Iwata in Shizuoka Prefecture, has been recognized as Japan’s new oldest living man, at the age of 110 years, 183 days.
Kiyotaka Mizuno was born in Iwata, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, on 14 March 1914. In his youth, he reportedly served as a guard for the Emperor and served on the continent during World War II, narrowly escaping death before returning to Iwata.
After the war, he worked as a farmer, producing shrimp potatoes and white leeks, until his 80s. At the age of 108, he lived at home with his eldest son and his family, and was able to eat and bathe on his own.
Today, on the 13th, Mayor Hiroaki Kusachi visited Mizuno at his home to present him with a bouquet of flowers in honor of his remarkable longevity.
It was reported that Mizuno assumed the title of Japan’s oldest living man on 21 August, following the passing of an anonymous man from Tokyo, born on January 23, 1914.
