Emma Robinson, age 110, is now a validated American supercentenarian.
Emma Robinson was born in LaFayette, Chambers County, Alabama, USA, on 9 February 1914. Educated in Chambers County and inspired to become a teacher, Robinson earned degrees from Alabama State and Alabama A&M Universities.
Active in the civil rights movement, she participated in marches in Tuskegee and Montgomery. There, she met her future husband, a minister. After he was appointed pastor at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church in Talladega, they moved to the Knoxville Community. Robinson dedicated 35 years to teaching in city and county school systems, continuing well into the 1970s. When her husband’s health declined, she retired to become his full-time caregiver.
Robinson remained independent, living on her own and driving herself well into her 90s. She stayed in her own house until she reached the age of 98. In 2009, she received an invitation to attend the inauguration of Barack Obama. However, she chose not to go due to the snowy weather in Washington.
