Her violinist father inspired her love for music, though she chose the piano. After graduating from Paseo High School, she spent two years at Kansas City Junior College before becoming a secretary, eventually rising to the position of administrative assistant at Barstow School for Girls. She later became a wife and a mother to 2 children.
