BIOGRAPHY

Sheetz was born in Birdsboro, Pennsylvania, USA, on 17 May 1906, to parents William D. Sheets (1883–1974) and Martha Elizabeth Wamsher (1888–1957). He had six younger siblings, including Levi Eugene Sheets (1916–1981), Ruth Naomi Shetrom (1919–2010), and Mary Martha Grim (1931–2023). At some point, the family moved to Harrisburg.

Sheetz married Christine Emma Dapp (1911–2009). The couple had one daughter, Shirley Farr.

During the Second World War, he served at the Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot, where he developed an automatic railroad stop system that was subsequently patented. After his retirement, he and his wife started raising and exhibiting West Highland Terriers. He served as a board member for the Harrisburg Kennel Club and was also a member of the Progress Church of God. He was still driving at the age of 100.

Sheetz passed away in Englewood, Florida, USA, on 28 May 2016, at the age of 110 years, 11 days. He was survived by his daughter, three grandchildren, four great-grandsons, and one great-great-granddaughter.
