BIOGRAPHY

Overall was born as Wilhelmina Elizabeth Hill in Coopers Shoot, New South Wales, Australia on 6 October 1908 as the daughter of Jack Hill. She moved with her family to Tyagarah before doing so again to a dairy farm in Knockrow.

Overall married the love of her life, Percy, after meeting him when he taught her father how to drive. The couple had three children, Jan, John, and Toni, and moved to Bondi Beach. Upon learning of her husband’s enlistment in the army for World War II, she moved her children to Bangalow to live with her parents for the duration of the conflict.

Having never smoked and only occasionally enjoying a beer, Overall was active well into old age. She played bowls until she was 93. On her 110th birthday, she was reported as physically declining but still mentally sharp.

Overall died on 21 October 2018 at the age of 110 years, 15 days. She was survived by her three children, as well as four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

RECOGNITION

Following the death of 112-year-old Margaret Vivian on 20 September 2018, Overall became Australia’s oldest known resident at the age of 109, marking the first time in over nine years when Australia had no living supercentenarians. Upon her own death, the title passed to Nessie Kluckhenn, then 109.
