BIOGRAPHY

Masue Ōura was born in Fukuda Town (Japanese: 福田町) in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, on 13 August 1909. She worked as a nurse. At some point, she married Hisao Ōura, who later became the town’s mayor. The couple had five children.

By the time she was 110, she was able to eat three full meals without assistance. According to her family, she was a strong-willed woman.

Masue Ōura passed away in Sasebo City, Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan, on 16 June 2021, at the age of 111.

RECOGNITION

On 28 July 2019, following the death of 112-year-old Masae Uchiyama, she became the oldest living person in Nagasaki Prefecture.

Upon her death, Fumi Otani succeeded her as the oldest living person in Nagasaki Prefecture.

Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Fumiyuki Yamaguchi, Yu Li and Ryohei Asano, and validated by LongeviQuest on 1 July 2023.
