BIOGRAPHY

Maria Aparecida Pires Daher was born in Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on 5 November 1910. Her parents were Benedicto Pires de Aguiar and Maria do Carmo Jordão. She had at least three siblings: Álvaro Jordão Pires, Maria da Conceição Adalberto and Belizário.

Following her parents’ footsteps, at the age of 16 she joined the Third Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, a branch of the religious Carmelite Order of the Ancient Observance. She held for several years, in the Third Order, the position of Prioress and novice master.

In 1941, she married Jorge Daher, an influential politician in the city, a counselor and deputy mayor of Angra dos Reis. The couple had 4 children: Jorge Daher, Maria da Glória, Pedro Salomão and Paulo Salomão.

As of November 2018, she had three living children, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Pires Daher passed away in Angra dos Reis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 26 April 2021, at the age of 110 years, 172 days.

RECOGNITION

Her age was verified by Stefan Maglov, and validated by the LAS on 6 November 2020.
