BIOGRAPHY

María Anastasia Colón Aponte was born in Salinas, Puerto Rico, on 27 April 1891, to parents Santos Colón and Valentina Aponte.

At some point she married Eusebio Massó Ledée. The couple had seven children: Emma, Juan Carlos, Eusebio, Guillermo, Idalia, José and Julia. She was known by her relatives as “Provi” (short for Providencia) and Güelin. In 1962, she was recognized as an “Exemplary Mother” by the municipality of Salinas.

María Anastasia Colón Aponte passed away in Olimpo, Guayama, Puerto Rico, on 28 October 2003, at the age of 112.

RECOGNITION

At the time of death, she was the second-oldest known living person in Puerto Rico, after Ramona Trinidad Iglesias Jordan.
