BIOGRAPHY

Cornu was born in the commune of Beaumont-le-Roger in the department of Eure in Normandy region, France, on 17 October 1910. Her parents were Julien Albert Jehanne (1866–1934) and Louise Juliette Leclerc (1881–1967). She had at least two older sisters: Thérèse Louise Albertine (1901–1906) and Georgette Jeanne Amanda (1905–2000). She began working at the Lace Factory in her hometown at the age of 14, continuing until her marriage to Elie René Charles Cornu (1904–1986) on 24 May 1930. Afterward, she devoted herself to her family, raising her three children, managing the household, and supporting the family through gardening and keeping small livestock.

Cornu attributed her longevity to a modest, healthy lifestyle and the loving presence of her family. She adapted well to modern changes and maintained strong family bonds.

Cornu passed away in Nassandres-sur-Risle, Eure, Normandy, on 19 May 2022, at the age of 111 years, 214 days.

RECOGNITION

On 25 June 2020, following the passing of 110-year-old Marie Durand of Le Havre, she became the oldest living person in Normandy.

Cornu’s age was verified by Cyril Depoudent and validated by the ESO on 14 February 2021.

Upon her passing, Raymonde Robert succeeded her as the oldest living resident of Normandy.
