Jeanne Céline Marie Martin (née Bisson) was a French supercentenarian. Her age has been validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO).

BIOGRAPHY

Jeanne Martin was born in the commune of Cairon in the Calvados department in the Normandy region in northwestern France, on 13 September 1904. Born to a laundress mother and a carpenter father, she volunteered during the D-Day landings in 1944, providing care to civilians and material support to the soldiers who came to liberate France. She was married to a mechanic and embraced the role of a homemaker.

She was reportedly one of the first people in France to undergo gallbladder surgery at Caen Hospital. A passionate knitter, she continued her craft throughout her life—initially working from home for foreign clients, and later within the walls of her retirement home, where she delighted in creating handmade gifts for fellow residents and those around her.

Jeanne Martin passed away in Caen, Normandy, France, on 9 November 2014, at the age of 110 years, 57 days.

RECOGNITION

Martin’s age was verified by Antoine Demarais (Les Grands Centenaires Français) and validated by the ESO on 19 April 2021.
