BIOGRAPHY
Ivy Clapham was born in Alford, Lincolnshire, England, on 6 September 1903. Clapham moved to East Yorkshire in her early twenties to work at Bishop Burton Hall – later known as Bishop Burton College – as a maid for the Hall-Watt family. It was there that she met gamekeeper Frederick Clapham. The couple married in 1928 and went on to have three children: Ursula Leak, John Clapham, and Margaret Johnson. Frederick passed away around 1990.
Even in her later years, she remained remarkably independent. Until about the age of 107, she was still living on her own in Skidby. At 110, her hearing had declined, but she was described as still being sharp and alert.
Ivy Clapham passed away in Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England, on 18 September 2014, at the age of 111 years, 12 days. At the time of her death, she was also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
