Ida Schorn

Ida Wilhelmine Schorn (née Plath) is a Polish-born American supercentenarian who was the second-oldest resident of the United States upon her death, after Mary Bittlebrun. Her age has been validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) and recognised by LongeviQuest (LQ).

Biography

Schorn was born as Ida Wilhelmine Plath in Ratzebuhr, Pomerania, Germany (present-day Okonek, Poland) as the daughter of Friedrich Plath and Carolina Guse. She emigrated to the United States in 1886 and later married fellow German immigrant Christian Schorn.

The couple had at least three children: William in 1893, Margaret in 1898, and Reinhold in 1900. Schorn’s husband worked as a labourer until his death in 1908. By 1910, her mother had emigrated and was living with her family.

Schorn died in Newark, New Jersey on 8 March 1986 at the age of 111 years, 308 days.
