BIOGRAPHY

Wood was born in New Canaan, Fairfield County, Connecticut, USA, on 22 July 1863, as the oldest child of Henry and Pauline Wood. At the age of 24, she joined South Norwalk Methodist church.

Around 1902, she moved to Norwalk, Connecticut, where she lived for the rest of her life. She worked as a sales clerk in a department store. She never married nor had children.

Wood retired at the age of 90. At the time of her 104th birthday, she lived with her younger sister and brother-in-law. Her sister, Mary Stumpf, was 97 at the time. She attributed her longevity to eating good food, keeping active and getting plenty of sleep.

Wood passed away in Norwalk, Fairfield, Connecticut, USA, on 27 June 1974, at the age of 110 years, 340 days.

RECOGNITION

At the time of death, newspapers reported her as the oldest living person in the U.S. state of Connecticut.
