Carrie Lou Lazenby (née Jenkins) was a validated American supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Carrie Lazenby was born in Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia in 1882, the daughter of George and Agnes Fambro Jenkins. Around 1901, she married Burrell Lazenby; the couple would have one son named Burrell, who died in 1924. She was married for around 42 years before the death of her husband in 1943.

Carrie Lazenby died in Riverdale, Cook, Illinois on 4 September 1996, at the age of 114.

Uncertainty Over Date of Birth

Lazenby was born in Georgia in an era before birth registration was widespread throughout the American Deep South, making her exact date of birth uncertain. In her 1900 census entry, her date of birth is listed as “February 1882”, although she would later claim to be born on 9 May 1882 for her Social Security Application. The GRG would later validate her with the birthdate of 9 February 1882 to reflect the month of birth given in her earliest document, although no known documentation supports this exact date of birth.

Similarly, her date of death is also a matter of speculation. While the GRG lists her date of death as 14 September 1996, Social Security records indicate she instead died 10 days earlier, on September 4th.

RECOGNITION

Her age was originally verified by the Kestenbaum Study, with these findings later being accepted by the GRG.
