Gutierrez was born in El Paso, Texas on 22 February 1913. Her parents, Sabano Marceleno and Josefina Arenivar, were both born in Mexico.
At some point in her life, she moved to Hayward, California, where she passed away on 1 November 2023, at the age of 110 years, 252 days.
