Antonia Valderrama Ocampo

Antonia Valderrama Ocampo was a Mexican supercentenarian, whose age was validated by both the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) and Latin American Supercentenarians (LAS). She originally claimed to have been born in 1905, but the validation process concluded that her actual birthdate is 11 April 1907.

Biography

Antonia Valderrama Ocampo was born in Hacienda de Cabañas, Guerrero, Mexico, on 11 April 1907 (claimed 1905). She had at least two brothers.

At some point she got married, but had no children. In 1961, she witnessed the passage of hurricane Tara, which left several communities in the region destroyed, including her birthplace, Hacienda de Cabañas.

She allegedly met Lucio Cabanas Barrientos, Mexican schoolteacher, when he was traveling through the region: “I met him when he came several times to Hacienda (Cabañas), we even gave him food…”, she said.

As of 2019, she was cared by two of her nieces.

Antonia Valderrama Ocampo died in Hacienda de Cabañas, Guerrero, Mexico, on 9 June 2020, at the age of 113 years, 59 days.

Recognition

Her age was verified by Fabrizio Villatoro, Stefan Maglov and Rebeca López Cabañas, and validated by the GRG on 26 July 2019. She was the second validated supercentenarian who lived in Mexico, after Ambrosia Acosta Terán.
