BIOGRAPHY

Yvonne Lomet was born in Paris on 26 November 1908, the eldest of 13 siblings. She was 26 years older than her youngest brother, who passed away in 2015. Her father, originally from Brittany, had settled in Loir-et-Cher for work. The region, known for its many castles, was an ideal place for him to practice his trade as an upholsterer. She attended the Marie-Tessier school in Blois, where she learned sewing. Later, she taught the subject in Nevers (Nièvre) before returning to her parents’ house in Blois for her retirement in 1973. She never married nor had children.

Remarkably independent until the age of 105, she was often seen strolling through the streets of Blois, doing her shopping. However, when her younger sister Lucienne, a nun, decided to retire to the Maison du Clergé retirement home in June 2017, she agreed to join her. Lucienne (27 July 1917 – 23 June 2021), who was 101 years old as of November 2018, had encouraged the move. The two sisters lived in adjacent rooms at the retirement home, where Lucienne looked after her older sister.

Yvonne Lomet passed away in Blois, on 25 July 2019, at the age of 110 years, 241 days. She was survived by her younger sister, Lucienne, who passed away in June 2021, a month shy of her 104th birthday.

RECOGNITION

Her age was verified by the Les Grands Centenaires Français, and validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) on 13 May 2024. This validation is yet to be recognized by LongeviQuest.
