Yoshi Furutani (Japanese: 古谷よし) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age has been validated by LongeviQuest.

BIOGRAPHY

Yoshi Furutani (古谷よし) was born in Japan on 28 June 1899.

At the age of eight, she contracted meningitis and was told by doctors that a full recovery would be difficult. According to accounts, however, her father gave her a tea made by boiling loquat leaves and citrus peel, a traditional East Asian folk remedy, and she eventually recovered. She then grew up in good health and was blessed with children and grandchildren.

Around the age of 102, she began to have difficulty walking and thereafter used a wheelchair. Even so, she remained in good spirits and was able to eat her meals on her own and finish them completely.

On 23 September 2009, Furutani passed away from heart failure at a nursing home in Obama City, Fukui Prefecture, Japan, at the age of 110 years and 88 days. At the time of her death, she was reported to be the second oldest person living in Fukui Prefecture, following Matsui Kobayashi of Fukui City.

RECOGNITION

Her age was verified by MHLW, Japan, and Ryohei Asano, and validated by LongeviQuest on 13 January 2026.
