Yasu Hidaka (Japanese: 日高ヤス) was a Japanese supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Yasu Hidaka (日高ヤス) was born in Japan on September 15, 1909. At the age of 104, she moved into a nursing home in Nishi Ward, Kumamoto City.

In September 2018 and again in September 2019, she received a visit from the Mayor of Kumamoto City as the city’s oldest resident.

According to the Kumamoto Nichinichi Shimbun on September 28, 2019, at the age of 110, although she was hard of hearing, she was still able to propel her own wheelchair, had a hearty appetite, and remained in good health. When asked about the secret to her longevity, she joked, “I enjoy singing my favorite songs and spending time with my friends, so I never think about dying. I’d like to marry a man two or three years older than me,” making everyone around her laugh.

In September 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the mayor’s annual longevity recognition was sent by mail instead of being presented in person.

At the time, visits to the nursing home had been heavily restricted because of the pandemic, and she was only able to see her family once a month. Her family recalled that she always looked delighted whenever they were finally able to visit.

She was last confirmed alive on November 1, 2020.
