Coggins was born in Summerfield, Louisiana, USA, on 25 February 1911, to parents Andy and Eula Davis. She had five siblings: Clinton Davis, Annie B. Phillips, Mae Lou Duggar, Artie Mae Burges, and Odell Gray (who survived her). From a young age, she learned to work, cook, bake, and clean. At the age of 10, she moved to Arkansas and dedicated her life to caring for her family. In 1949, she married Woodrow Coggins, with whom she later had 10 children. She was widowed after 19 years of marriage.
Coggins passed away in El Dorado, Arkansas, USA, on 26 July 2021, at the age of 110 years, 151 days. She was survived by her two sons, three daughters, a sister, 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 42 great-great-grandchildren, and one great-great-great-granddaughter.
