Vincenza Colucci (née Balassone) was an Italian-born American supercentenarian. Her age has been validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) and recognised by LongeviQuest.
Vincenza Balassone was born in Sulmona, Abruzzo, Italy, on 24 January 1903. She was one of ten children born to Pasquale Balassone and Anna DiCenso. The family lived in a medieval home that included a chapel, where Vincenza later married her husband, Francesco Colucci. In 1929, they immigrated to the United States, passing through Ellis Island before settling in Niagara Falls. Together they raised five children, carrying with them the customs and traditions of their Italian heritage while embracing their new American life.
Vincenza was a talented seamstress, an excellent cook, and a devoted gardener. She delighted in summer days spent at the family cottage, traveling to Italy and Argentina, and collecting shells along the beaches of Siesta Key. Her faith guided her throughout her life; she prayed the rosary daily and walked to church well into her hundreds. Vincenza was preceded in death by her beloved husband in 1953.
Vincenza Balassone passed away in Niagara Falls, New York, on 26 June 2015, at the age of 112 years, 153 days.
Colucci’s age was verified by Paolo Scarabaggio and Mark Muir, and was validated by the GRG on 9 March 2014.
