She was raised on a farm near Radcliffe.

After graduating from Waldorf Business College, she worked as an engineering secretary at Iowa State College, now Iowa State University.

On 5 December 1925, she married Henry Albert Webber (1895–1965) in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple had three children: Marjorie Webber (1928–2015), Richard Webber (1931–2014) and Donald Webber (born 1934). Her husband, Henry, was a chemical engineering professor at ISU for more than 40 years, overseeing unit operations. A World War I veteran, he retired from ISU in 1961 and passed away in 1965. All of their children graduated from ISU.
