Maria Elisabetha Vera Schmitt was a German supercentenarian.
Vera Schmitt was born in Schweinfurt, Bavaria, Germany, on 28 December 1903. She spent her childhood and youth in Nürnberg. Later, she worked as a medical technical assistant at Würzburg’s University Children’s Hospital.
Until 1998, she lived independently in Grombühl, a district of Würzburg. She then moved into a nursing home in Heidingsfeld, Würzburg. From that time on, the daughter of a former co-worker cared for her, as Schmitt never married or had children. When she turned 109, Schmitt was bedridden but remained mentally alert most of the time. In earlier years, she had always enjoyed singing and playing the piano.
Vera Schmitt passed away in Würzburg, Bavaria, on 26 April 2014, at the age of 110 years, 119 days.
Her age was validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) on 26 February 2020.
