Vera Lilian Rostron was a British supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Vera Rostron was born in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, England, on 24 December 1904. She had two sisters, Lucy and Doris, both of whom she outlived. As a young girl, she worked for her father, who was originally a wholesaler and retailer. However, his business premises were destroyed in a fire when she was just five years old. He later ran three shops, and the family eventually owned the Oxford Cinema on Oxford Street in Grimsby.

At the age of 15, Vera played piano in a band alongside a violinist and a drummer. She continued to work for her father throughout her life. In later years, she also cared for her mother, who suffered from heart problems. Vera married her husband, Billy, in 1939. They had two sons—Carl and another boy who sadly died at the age of two.

She never smoked, and the first time she drank alcohol was to mark a special occasion: a glass of champagne on her 100th birthday. Vera enjoyed sewing and crochet, and in her younger days, she took on many practical tasks, including decorating and brick pointing.

Vera Rostron passed away in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, England, on 23 February 2015, at the age of 110 years, 61 days.
