Vera Pigott was born in Clapton, London, England, on 8 July 1905, the only child of Ernest and Kate Bull. She married Douglas Pigott, a bank clerk, in 1924. For 23 years, she was a devoted full-time housewife and mother to their four children, before later working as a copy typist and receptionist. During the Second World War, she and her husband served as air raid wardens in Broadstairs.
In 1981, they moved to Dickens Close in Langley, where they lived with their youngest son. Douglas passed away in 1988, and their eldest son, Donald, died in 2009 at the age of 79.
She moved to Sutton Valence Care Home in 2006. When asked about the secret to her longevity, she remarked that avoiding excessive partying was key to living a long life.
Vera Pigott passed away in Maidstone, Kent, England, on 13 October 2016, at the age of 111 years, 97 days. She was survived by her eldest daughter, Beryl (aged 90), her younger daughter, Monica (aged 81), and her son, Graham (aged 69).
Pigott’s age was verified by Dr. Andrew Holmes and validated by the European Supercentenarian Organisation (ESO) on 30 March 2020.
