BIOGRAPHY

Bovo was born in Villanova di Camposampiero, a commune located near the city of Padua, on 22 April 1909. She later moved to the nearby commune of Pianiga. In November 1937, she married Albano “Gino” Calzavara, with whom she had three children – Sergio, Emilio, and Bertilla.

Bovo worked as a housewife, and was widowed in 1985. As a centenarian, she lived with her son Sergio. On her 109th birthday, she was reported to be lucid and remained active; by the following year, she slept a lot, was never angry, and remembered the words to numerous prayers. She was very religious, her birthday celebrations being attended by the serving parish priest.

Bovo died on 25 February 2020 at the age of 110 years, 309 days. She was survived by her children and grandchildren, and her funeral was held three days later.

RECOGNITION

Bovo became the oldest known resident of Veneto following the death of 111-year-old Luigia Pavoncelli on 19 August 2019. Upon her own death, the title passed to Ida Zoccarato, who would later go on to become the oldest living person in all of Italy.

Bovo’s age was verified by Alessandro Delucchi and Paolo Scarabaggio, and was validated by the ESO on 28 July 2021.
