Tameko Shijo (Japanese: 四條為子) was a Japanese-born American supercentenarian.
Tameko Shijo was born in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, on 1 January 1904. She emigrated to San Francisco, California, at the age of 19 when she married Kunio Shoji (1898–1941). They had four children, but two of her sons and her husband passed away before the end of World War II.
Tameko lived in her apartment until the age of 101, when she moved to Kimochi Home in San Francisco. On 30 April 2015, she was visited by Lady Akie Abe, the wife of Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
Tameko Shijo passed away in San Francisco, California, on 25 June 2016, at the age of 112 years, 176 days.
Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 8 October 2015. The validation was later recognized by LongeviQuest.
On 15 May 2016, following the passing of Florence Boggs, she became the oldest known living person in California. Upon her own passing, she was succeeded by Mildred Sapp.
