Tamae Ōyama (Japanese: 大山タマヱ) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age has been validated by LongeviQuest.

BIOGRAPHY

Tamae Ōyama (大山タマヱ) was born in Japan on 23 October 1896. She raised four sons and two daughters.

At the age of 108, she had 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. At that time, she lived with her third son and his wife, as well as her second daughter. One of her greatest joys in her later years was having her children and grandchildren come to visit.

Ōyama enjoyed writing tanka, a traditional form of Japanese poetry, and continued composing poems until around the age of 103. One of her poems reads:
「来る年は幸せなれと老願う新芽のごとき子等の生い立ちを」
“May the coming year be a happy one, I pray in my old age, as I watch the children, like new buds, grow.”
In this poem, Ōyama expressed her hope for the happiness of the coming year and for the healthy growth of children, whom she compared to new buds.

In another tanka, she reflected on how she wished to spend her own old age:
「よどみなき水の流れの如くにて老いを過さんその日来るまで。」
“Like the unbroken flow of water, I shall pass through my old age until that day comes.” The poem reflects her wish to live out her old age calmly and naturally, like water flowing without stagnation, until the final day of her life.

Tamae Ōyama passed away in Takanabe, Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan, on 10 November 2006, at the age of 110 years and 18 days. At the time of her death, she was the third-oldest living person in Miyazaki Prefecture, behind Kozuru Ueda and Tomoji Tanabe.
