BIOGRAPHY
Sunao Matsuda was born in Japan on 30 July 1900.
As a centenarian, he was visited multiple times during the Respect for the Aged Day by the Mayor of Hirao, Kenichi Yamada (Japanese: 山田健一).
Sunao Matsuda passed away in Hirao, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, in December 2010, at the age of 110 years, 124-154 days.
RECOGNITION
On 26 July 2006, following the death of 108-year-old Sasaki Yasuichi of Yamaguchi City, Matsuda became the oldest (known) living man in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
In July 2010, he celebrated his 110th birthday, becoming the first male supercentenarian from Yamaguchi Prefecture.
At the time of his passing, he was the third-oldest (known) living man in Japan, after Jiroemon Kimura and Tanekichi Ōnishi.
His age was verified by the MHLW, Japan, and validated by the Gerontology Research Group (GRG) on 24 January 2011. The validation was later recognized by LongeviQuest.
