BIOGRAPHY

Sue Utagawa was born into a farming family in Hofu, 485 miles, southwest of Tokyo, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan on 19 January 1884. She married in 1910 and had four children. Her husband died in 1948. Sue Utagawa was Japan’s oldest living person for almost two years, from the death of Tane Ikai in July 1995 to her own death on 4 May 1997 in a hospital in Ube, 510 miles southwest of Tokyo, Yamaguchi Prefecture at the age of 113 years and 105 days. She is currently the oldest validated person ever from Yamaguchi Prefecture.
