Soto Kitagawa [Japanese: 北川そと] was a Japanese supercentenarian.

BIOGRAPHY

Soto Kitagawa (北川そと) was born in Toyama City, Toyama Prefecture, Japan, on February 23, 1890.

At the age of 110, she was living with her second son and receiving home-visit nursing care. Until the age of 109, she had been healthy enough to walk to her local clinic for medical checkups.

When asked about the secret to her longevity, she attributed it to living modestly without luxury. She also noted her easygoing nature and the fact that she had no particular dislikes in food.

Kitagawa passed away from heart failure in Kobe City, Hyōgo Prefecture, on March 18, 2001, at the age of 111 years and 23 days. At the time of her death, she was the oldest living person in Hyōgo Prefecture as well as in the Kansai region. Following her passing, Tsuru Misawa became the oldest living person in the prefecture.

RECOGNITION

Her age was validated by the Gerontology Research Group on 7 March 2000.
