BIOGRAPHY

Simone Segoin was born in the commune of Pinon in the Aisne department in Hauts-de-France in northern France, on 24 March 1907. Raised by her mother, she experienced the hardships of World War I during her youth and entered religious life in 1942. After World War II, she dedicated herself to her faith and passion by serving in hospitals, factories, and social services at town halls.

Since 1952, she had been a member of the Congregation of the Dominican Sisters of the Incarnate Word, based in Dammarie-lès-Lys, where she was known by her religious name, Sister Marie de l’Incarnation. She later devoted herself to children, becoming a kindergarten teacher and offering literacy classes. Even in her later years, two students continued to learn from her diligently.

At 107, it was reported that although her eyesight had begun to fail, her mind remained remarkably sharp. She stayed informed about current events by listening to the radio and television news, and every week, three people provided her with a press review.

Simone Segoin passed away in the commune of Dammarie-lès-Lys in the Seine-et-Marne department in the Île-de-France region, on 28 May 2017, at the age of 110 years, 65 days.
