Shizuko Amako (Japanese: 尼子シズ子) was a Japanese supercentenarian whose age has been validated by LongeviQuest.

BIOGRAPHY

Shizuko Amako was born in Japan on 15 December 1912.

At the age of 100 in 2012, Amako was living at home and maintained a high level of independence, believing in doing her own cooking, cleaning, and laundry. She said that the secret to her longevity was her daily routine of walking to two Jizo statues every morning to clean and pray.

In September 2019, the mayor of Taketa City visited Amako at the nursing home where she lived and presented her with a commemorative gift in honor of her longevity and for being the oldest resident in the city.

Amako passed away in late July 2024, but the exact date of death is unknown. She was a resident of Taketa City, Oita Prefecture.

RECOGNITION

Her age was verified by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (MHLW), as well as Yu Li, Yumi Yamamoto, and Ryohei Asano, and validated by LongeviQuest on 14 June 2024.
