Shime Nakanishi (中西シメ) was born on 3 January 1914 in Japan. At the age of 109, in September 2023, she received a congratulatory visit from the Mayor of Minoh City as the city’s oldest resident. On that occasion, she shared her secret to longevity, saying, “To experience everything and try anything without hesitation.” During her conversation with the mayor, she also recalled how food shortages made life difficult during the war and how she felt when her husband returned to Minoh from Okinawa after the war ended.
Nakanishi has long enjoyed knitting and used to make sweaters and other garments by hand. In both September 2024 and September 2025, she was again visited by the mayor as the oldest resident of Minoh City. She currently lives in a nursing home in the city.
Her age was verified by Minoh City, Yumi Yamamoto, Ryohei Asano and Marco Wikkerink, and validated by LongeviQuest on 14 October 2025.
