Servando Palacin Bernal is a Spanish supercentenarian.
Servando Palacin Bernal was born in Reinoso de Cerrato, Castile and León, Spain, on 6 May 1915. He was born in the countryside into a very poor family, unable to pursue an education and forced to work from a very young age to support himself. His father died during the Spanish flu pandemic, leaving him orphaned at the age of three. In his youth, he joined the military, but the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War sent him to the front lines. He was wounded in combat in Los Barrios de Luna, when a bullet pierced his arm.
At some point, he married Juana, and together they had two children, including Javier. Juana passed away in 2008 after several years of living with dementia. He remained by her side until the very end.
As an adult, since the age of 48, he experienced frequent asthma attacks, especially while his children were still young. With no effective treatments available at the time, he often struggled with sleepless nights. As a centenarian, he claimed to have made a full recovery. According to him, his healthy lifestyle, positive outlook, and devout Catholic faith—practiced daily—were the key pillars of his well-being.
At the age of 108, he had a pacemaker implanted. The procedure was recommended by Dr. Manuel de la Peña, President of the European Institute of Health and Social Welfare, who explained that the device was necessary to correct a heart rhythm disorder caused by sick sinus syndrome.
His age has not been validated.
